You probably know The Royal Canadian Legion as an organization that supports Canada’s Veterans and honours their sacrifice. You may have seen us hosting the Remembrance Day ceremony or distributing Poppies during our annual Poppy Campaign. Perhaps you heard or read stories about the Legion supporting local Veterans and their families.
What you might not realize is that we do so much more, and once you learn more about us, you may find you have a much stronger connection to the Legion than you might have thought!
Yes, a key focus of the work we do is to honour and support our Veterans, but we also are a grassroots organization with volunteer community-based activities that help build a stronger Canada from coast to coast to coast.
While many Legionnaires are Veterans, our members also include families of Veterans and members of the public with no military connections. Their common goal: to support Veterans and help their community. In fact, with over 1,400 Branches and more than 275,000 members across Canada, the Legion provides one of the largest volunteer bases in the country.
Legionnaires are probably best known for distributing Poppies during the Remembrance period, helping raise money for Veterans and their families and ensuring Canadians ‘never forget’. Yet behind the scenes, Legionnaires also volunteer in their Branches, providing essential programs and services for Veterans, seniors and families in need, supporting youth education and leadership programs, hosting Branch activities and fundraisers, and more.
This Legion branch has been a cornerstone of the Niagara on the Lake community since 1966, providing central places for people to gather and feel connected to their neighbours.
Branches are almost entirely run by volunteers, and Legionnaires are the lifeblood of the organization. From service to the country to service to the community, Legion members impact the lives of their fellow citizens, in particular Veterans, seniors and youth.
All this good work in our community we've done over the years and continue to do in would not be possible without the support of our hardworking and dedicated volunteers.
Every Saturday from 5pm-7pm two (2) volunteers are needed to run the BBQ. This includes cooking, taking tickets, and providing the condiments. Sales are done inside at the bar.
Outside work is always required on the grounds. Whether it be general gardening (weeding, watering, planting), litter pick up, etc. Additionally, the upstairs bar needs to be repainted as well as cleared out.
While it's quieter around the branch, it seems the opportune time to clean out and clear out the branch. The upstairs bar is in need of some work as is reorganizing the office, the records room & behind the stage
Fill out our Branch Volunteer Information Sheet letting us knowhow you'd like to help, and return the sheet to the branch
Every Thursday is our branch's Weekly Fish Fry. Many volunteers are needed to make this necessary fundraising initiative run smoothly for our branch. We require, runners, fish fryers, clean up help, cash help, help bagging, french fryer, etc.

Would you like to offer your physical assistance to help during event days with set up and tear down? Such as, tent popup, signage, stage moving, fence markings, etc. Please let us know!
Are you available to lend a hand to help on event days with the various activities that happen around the branch? We often have a need for ticket sellers/counters, and assistance with our 50/50 draws, Meat Draws, etc.
Are you interested in helping out during one of our Event Dinners as a Server / Kitchen Help. These events would consist of Honours and Awards, Remembrance Dinners, etc. Assistance in the kitchen is always appreciated.
As a branch, we couldn't accomplish our goals without the help of our members, volunteers and supporters like yourself. Thank you for your time, participation, feedback and donations that makes all of what our local branch is today possible!
